Obama pointed the finger early and often in his statement about the failed attempt to bomb an airplane bound for the US.
The trouble is he never once pointed it at himself. He's been in office almost a year and rode in on a chariot of "change" allegedly determined to, well, change things from the way that President Bush did things.
The trouble is the only change he brought with him have been demonstrated to be the wrong moves.
The left has been pressing for the closure of Guantanamo Bay as a prison for enemy combatants and for the speedy release of anyone the (Bush) administration could not prove was an immediate threat.
Yet this attack was masterminded by people let out of Guantanamo (are they an immediate enough threat now?) and this type of attack can't be stopped by Obama's preferred strategy of law enforcement because by its very nature law enforcement is a reactive policy. You have to have a terrorist act (or attempted one) before you move against the terrorists.
Failing to "connect the dots" is a pretty sad state of affairs more than eight years into the war on terrorism, especially when there was a similar attack a couple of months after 9-11.
Obama can't promise to be an agent of change while in campaign mode and then pretend to be outside the circle of events once something bad happens.
It your administration, your intelligence community, your law-enforcement strategy and you have to start taking responsibility for it for good or bad, Mr. Obama.

And I hear he's going to make a "statement" about the failed bombing attempt. I wonder if the latest intelligence briefing, that terrorists are out to get us (no, really) will also be mentioned?
I suppose that as a fan of the law-enforcement strategy against terrorism he should refer to the bomber in question as an "alleged" bomber. :P
Meanwhile, it's a good thing that over the past year Obama has "focused" on Afghanistan because the dramatic increase in terrorist attacks there and in Pakistan probably would have been a lot worse if we were "distracted" in Iraq. Speaking of which, we still have more troops there than in Afghanistan and a similar number of troops compared to the pre-surge level. Just what did Obama mean by "refocusing" and "bringing the troops home"?
It looks to me like Obama is getting the education in foreign affairs and terrorism that he so dearly needed prior to running for President. For his sake (and ours) I hope there aren't many more 3AM calls before he "gets it".
One thing is for sure: we can't afford another year of failure like we had in 2009. Going easy on terrorism suspects, enemy combatants and ignoring the warning signs from domestic terrorists is not the way to go.

Humiliated and stung by the truth over Republican votes on transportation security the left continues in their attempts to make terrorism a partisan issue by claiming that President Bush being in Camp David (minutes from the White House) two days prior to Christmas is the same as Obama being in Hawaii, after Christmas, and staying there. Of course it's not.
They also jumped the gun on how President Bush responded to the issue. First they claimed "he did nothing", then they said "he said nothing" and now are desperately flailing about trying to redefine "did" and "said" because not only did President Bush do something but administration officials kept the press informed about developments all along. (Thus the claims that "Bush" "said nothing"!)
KELLY WALLACE, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Hello again to you, Catherine.
Some additional information to bring to you at this time. We do know that President Bush was notified about this situation earlier today and that he has already had a briefing on the situation. The president, as we have noted, is spending the holiday weekend at the presidential retreat at Camp David. Also Homeland Security Chief Tom Ridge is aware of the situation and we know the administration has been in touch with the Massachusetts governor's office as well.
The word from the White House, Catherine, is that the administration has been monitoring the situation since it became aware of it late morning according to one administration official. We also know the FBI, the lead investigative agency, at this time. A spokeswoman for the FBI field office in Boston saying that the FBI currently has one person in custody for -- quote -- "interference with a flight crew", not releasing any more information saying it is an ongoing investigation.
And we also know, Catherine, as Jeff Levine has been reporting at the Pentagon as well, U.S. military officials confirming that two F-15 fighter jets did escort that American Airlines plane into Boston's Logan International Airport, and I am told by one U.S. official that those planes intercepted the American Airlines flight as soon as it entered American airspace.
That is the latest from here. Obviously, U.S. officials here at the White House and throughout the government monitoring the situation closely. But right now, that's all we have for you. Catherine, back to you. Note that this is hours after the attack.
Of course the differences between the Bush administration, months after 9-11 and just as the war in Afghanistan was starting and the Obama administration approach to terrorism since day 1 are marked. The left wants you to forget that they claimed Bush was inches short of a police state back then and that Obama's lackadaisical attitude is behind the criticism of his response.
But remember the left has to lie, the facts and logic are always against them!

Can you imagine the headlines if President Bush had stayed on vacation in Texas after an attempted terrorist attack like the one from last week?
Also, I'm sure the left would be on the march to claim that it was all President Bush's fault and he "allowed" the attack to happen despite intelligence warnings about the man involved.
Frequent flier update: I think we need some new "pat down" techniques if the terrorists are going to hide explosives in their crotch and up their asses. I wonder if the TSA is looking for a few good proctologists?

North Korea tried another nuclear test today. Apparently it was a little more successful than their last attempt. This one actually amounted to a Hiroshima sized bomb.
A "small IED" exploded outside a Starbucks in New York City today.
Urgent requests for tea service have been flowing out of the White House all day.

Obama refuses to quicken troop withdrawal from Iraq.
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says he won't consider speeding up the troop pullout from Iraq even though security has improved and violence has decreased.
"I think the plan that we put forward in Iraq is the right one" because it calls for "a very gradual withdrawal through the national elections in Iraq," he said in an interviewed aired Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation." Um...so his policy in Iraq is to stick to Bush's plan?
I guess that past six years of uproar over Iraq was nothing more than a tempest in a teapot then! Oh well, just one more thing that President Bush has proven to be right about.

In another "change" that isn't really a change at all the Obama administration has stated that while waterboarding is off the table, other forms of "enhanced interrogation" are not.
On another matter, Blair said the United States will no longer waterboard prisoners_ a form of simulated drowning that was used against three alleged terrorists in 2002 and 2003. But other "enhanced interrogation techniques" are being considered for inclusion in the methods finally approved for use. He did not say what methods he would consider retaining. The CIA's enhanced interrogation program is classified. Blair is a key figure in the White House review of the CIA's interrogation program. Don't you like how the AP still refers to people who admitted they were terrorists as "alleged" terrorists?
I suppose I should start referring to people who work at AP as "alleged" journalists. :D

Okay, for all the people hyperventilating that the recently released memos prove that President Bush did something wrong/illegal/blah blah blah....
Where are the victims? You've had eight years to produce a single US citizen whose rights were violated and the result: zip, nada, zilch.
You'll just have to be content that you changed US law to allow our enemies to have the same rights as US citizens when they are caught waging war against us.
Gosh, remind me to thank all of you for that when people we were forced to release because we didn't read them their "rights" launch another 9-11 on us.
I guess we also need to rewind history back to 1944 and land at Normandy with a division of lawyers waving search warrants at the Germans.

Barack Obama is closing down Gitmo and has basically made arrangements for most (if not all) current detainees to be released within a year.
Because Obama has stated that any trials will be in current federal courts he has opened up Americans to become specific targets of terrorism if they are associated with the trials and made it easier for terrorists to be released if the government does not want to disclose any aspect of the case at hand because of concerns over classified information and covert agents.
But that's not Obama's problem! He's too busy fleeing the Middle East to realize that he's laying the groundwork for a terrorist offensive inside the United States.
Barack, you've convinced me! I want change now, too!

The Taliban are making large gains within Pakistan. This threatens not only Pakistan but much of the world if the Taliban were to capture Pakistan's nuclear weapons.
The Taliban, therefore, need to remain at the top of the list of targets in the war on terrorism. Hopefully President-elect Obama understands this and will work with Pakistan to wipe out the Taliban. It would not be a stretch to say that the Taliban (and what's left of al Qaeda hiding in their midst) are the top target for the United States and its allies in this war.
First on the agenda should be working with both India and Pakistan to defuse the current tension and ensure that justice prevails in the wake of the Mumbai massacre and for the United States to guarantee the defense of both nations to prevent open war from breaking out. I hope Hillary is making plane reservations and putting Condi on speed dial.

The Supreme Court ruled that spies and other unlawful combatants have habeas corpus rights.
To that I say: shoot them.
The prisoners, that is...not the Justices.
Give them once chance when they are captured to provide useful information. If they fail to do so shoot them right there on the field of battle, as even the Geneva Convention allows. Once word gets around that you have once chance to live a lot of information will flow from people captured by allied forces.
And that prevents the US court system from being flooded with motions from people who are trying to kill us.

Today is the first day that the Democrats have left America significantly vulnerable to attack since the days before 9-11.
No wonder a majority of the people disapprove of what the Democrats leading Congress have been doing.
They lied about what they were going to do.
They failed to act on significant legislation.
They failed to protect America.
It is easy to understand why Nancy Pelosi said "we" have lost in Iraq when you realize which side she (and many Democrats) is on.
We have lost cities and afterwards villages.... We got away from people and found ourselves in a wasteland desert I look forward to many more losses by Pelosi. Hopefully her defeatism will not harm America while she is in power.
Edit: More on who is losing: Al Qaeda in crisis.
Al-Qaeda in Iraq faces an “extraordinary crisis”. Last year's mass defection of ordinary Sunnis from al-Qaeda to the US military “created panic, fear and the unwillingness to fight”. The terrorist group's security structure suffered “total collapse”. So...Nancy...who is this "we" you are referring to?

That general, Ricardo Sanchez, was widely criticized by the left for being responsible for the Abu Ghraib scandal.
Today he is their mouthpiece repeating Hillary's sound bites in an attempt to make it appear as if Hillary has the support of the military.
"The improvements in security produced by the courage and blood of our troops have not been matched by a willingness on the part of Iraqi leaders to make the hard choices necessary to bring peace to their country," Sanchez said in remarks to be aired Saturday for the weekly Democratic radio address. And by that the Democrats mean the Iraqi government has refused to surrender to al Qaeda/the insurgents/Iran.
Oddly enough, even though the left claimed he was responsible for the torture at Abu Ghraib, he is now repeating their calls for and end to "aggressive interrogations" that they feel constitute torture. He was also the general that failed to pacify Iraq following the liberation in 2003 and claimed it "couldn't be done". Well, at least not while he was in charge, no. His prediction that the surge would fail has also been proven to be incorrect.
Democrats sure have an odd way of trying to promote their agenda, don't they?
