Senator Reid can read the polls just as easily as President Obama can. But while Obama doesn't have to run for re-election until 2012 a lot of Senate Democrats have to run in 2010.
Sorry, Barrack, but the nation isn't going to swallow your bad medicine just because you say it's good for them!
Look on the bright side, though. The DOW is back above 9,000 so you can stop ignoring it! :D

Not today, but back in the 1980s for deliberately leaking classified information because he was opposed to President Reagan's policies.
“LEAKY” LEAHY: CARELESS WITH INTELLIGENCE FLASHBACK: Sen. Patrick “Leaky” Leahy Forced To Resign Intelligence Committee Post Because Of Loose Lips:
Leahy Was Forced To Resign From The Senate Intelligence Committee After Leaking Information On The Iran-Contra Investigation. “Sen. Patrick Leahy’s admission that he resigned from the Intelligence Committee this year for ‘carelessly’ exposing the panel’s draft report on the Iran-Contra investigation comes at a time of increased political tension over the issue of leaks to the news media.” (George Lobsenz, United Press International, 7/29/87)
- “Leahy Asserted His Only Goal Was To Prove That The Draft ‘Was Being Held Up Because There Were Major Gaps And Other Problems With It, And Not Because Of A Desire To Embarrass The President.’ He Said He Was ‘Angry With Himself For Carelessly Allowing The Press Person To Examine The Unclassified Draft.’” (George Lobsenz, United Press International, 7/29/87)
- “Behavior Like This Earned For Him The Sobriquet, ‘Leaky Leahy.’” (Jay Nordlinger, “The ‘Nastiest’ Democrat: Sen. Patrick Leahy, Republican Nightmare,” National Review, 7/9/01) “Also, In The ‘80’s, Leahy Gained Some Notoriety As A Member Of The Intelligence Committee. He Was Charged With Revealing Classified Information During The Achille Lauro Terrorist Incident, Outraging Administration Officials.” (Jay Nordlinger, “The ‘Nastiest’ Democrat: Sen. Patrick Leahy, Republican Nightmare,” National Review, 7/9/01)
Just one of the many reasons why groups like the CIA stopped handing out information to just anyone in Congress and why Leahy is the last person to be calling for "truth" commissions.
Update: the super secret super evil plan the super evil Republicans kept from Congress? The New York Times published at least one article about it back in 2002. Oops!

It may not be ironic that a professional liar and personal attack artist has become a politician and won a seat in the Senate. Indeed some would argue that Al Franken is merely "rising" to his potential in that field.
It is however, a sad day for America. That such a vile piece of human scum is representing good, honest people is a tragedy.
Newly minted as a Senator, Franken is already one of the worst politicians ever. Born in scandal, his political career will surely end that way as well.

Democrats in the House have rigged the "reconciliation" terms of any health care debate for forthcoming legislation by limiting debate in the Senate and requiring a mere majority for passage.
That is: no matter what the Republicans do all the Democrats needs is 51 votes in the Senate to agree to whatever passes in the House and the Republicans can't filibuster the bill.
Congress is well on its way to becoming a rubber stamp for Obama.
I can't wait until they make opposing the Obamanation a crime.

That's right, Chris Dodd's "explanation" about his sordid affairs is that while he actually did do all these acts he actually had no idea what he was doing when he did them.
Ok then! He still thinks he should be allowed the privilege of serving as a Senator from Connecticut, of course, even though his favor trading extends well beyond Freddie, Fannie and Countrywide.
Now enterprising Hartford Courant columnist Kevin Rennie has uncovered another suspicious real-estate investment. The story starts in 1994, when the Senator became one-third owner of a 10-acre estate, then valued at $160,000, on the island of Inishnee on Galway Bay. The property is near the fashionable village of Roundstone, a well-known celebrity haunt. William Kessinger bought the other two-thirds share in the estate. Edward Downe, Jr., who has been a business partner of Mr. Kessinger, signed the deed as a witness. Senator Dodd and Mr. Downe are long-time friends, and in 1986 they had purchased a condominium together in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Downe is also quite the character. The year before the Galway deal, in 1993, he pleaded guilty to insider trading and securities fraud and in 1994 agreed to pay the SEC $11 million in a civil settlement. The crimes were felonies and in 2001, as President Clinton was getting ready to leave office, Mr. Dodd successfully lobbied the White House for a full pardon for Mr. Downe.
The next year -- according to a transfer document at the Irish land registry viewed by Mr. Rennie -- Mr. Kessinger sold his two-thirds share to Mr. Dodd for $122,351. The Senator says he actually paid Mr. Kessinger $127,000, which he claims was based on an appraisal at the time. That means, at best, poor Mr. Kessinger earned less than 19% over eight years on the sale of his two-thirds share to Mr. Dodd. But according to Ireland's Central Bank, prices of existing homes in Ireland quadrupled from 1994 to 2004. That's a fine "how do you do!"
Again, Chris Dodd insists that there was nothing criminal about any of his activities; he is just too stupid to realize they were unethical and/or criminal when he did them. Personally, I think it's a losing proposition to state that you didn't deliberately help cause a financial meltdown, you were merely too stupid to realize the consequences of your actions. How is that going to be an incentive to keep you in office?
I always wondered why Democrat voters didn't mind being called stupid by their elected representatives. Maybe its because the Democrat representatives are poster children for stupidity. Talk about dumb and dumber!
I'm not sure why Chris Dodd thinks being stupid will save him. Voters in Connecticut should be smart enough to realize that it doesn't matter whether Chris Dodd is too unethical to stay or too stupid to stay; it is time for him to go.

This is how you steal a Senate seat.
Some board decisions on votes are exceedingly difficult to understand, and even watching the television coverage of their decisions this last week provided little additional insight. Here is an example where the Minnesota Canvassing Board claims the vote is clearly for Franken. Voters are supposed to fill in the small oval next to a candidate’s name to vote for that candidate. The board explains its decision as there being "No Dup" (presumably meaning that there was no duplicate ballot), but it is not clear how that would switch what looks like an obvious Coleman vote to a Franken vote. FOXNews.com - Ballot Madness: Tipping the Scales in Minnesota's Senate Recount - Opinion How to divine voter intent in Minnesota:
If there is a clear vote for Franken, count the vote as one for Franken. Otherwise, count the vote as one for Franken.

I can't wait to vote against Senator Voinovich. We got rid of the RINO DeWine last time and Voinovich is next. With the two of them gone we at least have a chance of getting a real Republican like Ken Blackwell back in the Senate from Ohio.
Can you believe the Senate's socialist, Bernie Sanders voted no while most Republicans didn't?
The proposal submitted by the Treasury was three pages. The House turned it into a 110 page monstrosity. The Senate, not to be outdone, turned it into 450 pages of giveaways, bribes, earmarks, pork, stupid laws, stupid mandates and a giant heaping serving of "cover your ass" for everyone in government.
At least Harry Reid was smart enough not to try to blame Republicans for all that ills America and then expect them to line up in droves to support the bill. We'll see tomorrow whether Nancy has learned her lesson about that.

Larry Craig resigns:
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig resigned Saturday over a men's room sex sting, bowing to pressure from fellow Republicans worried about a scandal dimming their election prospects.
"I apologize for what I have caused," Craig said.
Craig's resignation completed a stunning downfall that began Monday with the disclosure that he had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge following his arrest during a sex sting in a Minneapolis airport men's room. Hopefully politicians of all persuasions will learn that campaigning against behaviors they engage in is political suicide. Add to that the fact that they are campaigning against voluntary associations simply because they don't agree with them (and as has been demonstrated, this may be a lie).
Stick to the Constitution. The federal government, for example, has no business deciding who can get married.

Senator Craig, just come out of the closet already.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A defiant Sen. Larry Craig denied any wrongdoing Tuesday despite his guilty plea this summer in a men's room police sting, emphatically adding, "I am not gay. I have never been gay."
Craig, a third-term senator from Idaho, proclaimed his innocence as well as his sexuality less than an hour after Senate leaders from his own Republican Party called for an ethics committee review of his case. It is about time that politicians realized that not that many people really care if you are straight, bi or gay as long as you do the job you were hired to do.
Unless, of course, you spend a lot of time politicking against one or more of the above.
Let's leave the hypocrisy to the Democrats on this (and all other) issues.

Remember, when the Democrats say "bipartisan" they mean you have to agree with what they propose!
WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats' hopes of starting off their control of the Senate with a sweeping commitment to ethics reform received a painful jolt Wednesday, their ethics and lobbying legislation sidetracked by a dispute with Republicans.
Democrats failed to clear a crucial legislative hurdle when the Senate voted 51-46 to proceed with the bill that would have reduced the influence of lobbyists in shaping legislation and forced lawmakers to be more open about the pet projects they slip into legislation. Sixty votes were needed to advance the legislation.
With the vote, the bill was effectively driven from the Senate floor.
Republicans voted against the motion to proceed because they were upset that Democrats were blocking an amendment, sponsored by Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., that would have given the president authority, with the approval of Congress, to single out individual spending items in legislation for elimination. So those individual spending items are evil, but not so evil they want the President to be able to cut them without vetoing the entire bill.

Caught manipulating facts and the truth about climate change (*cough*) the MSM has simply ignored a Senate hearing on the matter. (Referenced in an earlier article.)
I also heard some interesting scientific debate as to whether ice core temperature readings can really be used as a reliable indicator of whether carbon dioxide is related to global climate changes. Don't expect to hear much about this, though, since the CO2 proponent, Dr. Daniel Schrag of Harvard, was less-than-articulate arguing the affirmative. As of the writing of this posting, I haven't found a single news source that quoted from today's hearing. I did see and converse with several reporters but so far have yet to read any coverage.
What I did find online, though, was an AP article which briefly mentioned the hearing but quoted no one other than California Democrat Barbara Boxer, the incoming EPW chair. It went out late today and could easily have quoted from any of the Republican members of the committee but did not. You can be sure that if this was a Senate dog and pony show in favor of the climate change hoax the MSM would make it front page news and proclaim that Congress "acknowledged" the "fact" of global warming.
Nor does the MSM acknowledge the existence of people who do not agree with the climate change evangelicals.
I went into the discussion expecting it would be more interesting than your typical congressional hearing and wasn't disappointed. Dr. David Deming, a geophysicist from the University of Oklahoma recounted an experience he had with an NPR reporter who hung up on him after he declined to say that he thought global temperature increases were human-caused. Better to ignore them until they go away...or are silenced by acts of Congress. Current Mood : busy Tags : global warming hoax, msm, senate Location : Home

Not your usual parade of nutcases, either.
Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican and chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, will hold a full committee hearing tomorrow on "Climate Change and the Media."
The hearing will look at how the media has presented scientific evidence regarding predictions of human-caused catastrophic global warming, the senator's office said.
"Senator Inhofe believes that poorly conceived policy decisions will result from the media's nonstop hyping of 'extreme scenarios' and dire climate predictions," said committee Communications Director Marc Morano. "This hearing will serve to advance the interests of sound science and encourage rational policy decisions."
Among those who are scheduled to testify at the hearing are geologist David Deming of the University of Oklahoma; paleoclimate researcher Bob Carter of Australia's James Cook University; Dan Gainor of the Business & Media Institute; Naomi Oreskes of the University of California at San Diego and professor Daniel Schrag of Harvard University.
The hearings will be broadcast live on the Internet through the above link.

Bolton's resignation is a sign of the Bush administration's inability to secure nominations in the Senate for the people they wanted. With the Democrat victories in November this will only get worse over the next two years.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday. President Bush is paying the price for Republican Party weakness on this issue. By failing to confront the Democrats directly on their obstructionist tactics (such as the non-filibuster filibuster) they allowed the minority party to effectively control the nomination process.
The President appears to have given up on just about everything since the November elections. If he is not willing to lead for the next two years he should just resign. The only thing worse than the Democrats controlling the direction of the nation is them doing it through a compliant Republican administration. But not for the gander?
WASHINGTON (AP) - Resurgent Democrats say that if the Senate is equally divided in the new Congress they will demand the kind of power-sharing arrangement similar to the one worked out six years ago when Democrats and Republicans each held 50 votes. Funny how the Democrats demand power sharing when they anticipate being in the minority but quickly abandon such ideas when they find themselves in the majority by a single vote. Republican hopefuls for 2008 staged a rebellion in the Senate against President Bush, offering a rival bill that would constrain US actions regarding detainees more than the President's favored bill.
WASHINGTON (AP) - A rebellious Senate committee defied President Bush on Thursday and approved terror-detainee legislation he has vowed to block, deepening Republican conflict over terrorism and national security in the middle of the election season.
Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia, normally a Bush supporter, pushed the measure through his Armed Services Committee by a 15-9 vote, with Warner and three other GOP lawmakers joining Democrats. The vote set the stage for a showdown on the Senate floor as early as next week. While there are a number of forces in play here there is no mistaking Senator McCain's efforts to differentiate himself from President Bush as he gears up for a Presidential run in 2008.
I hope the Senate rebels are able to console themselves with their bill when al Qaeda comes knocking again. They should look to recent developments regarding the French for a preview of what that will be like. Current Mood : disappointed Tags : republicans, senate, war on terrorism Location : home

John Dean exposed his ignorance about the international surveillance program and of how the US Senate works.
WASHINGTON (AP) - John W. Dean, Richard Nixon's White House lawyer, told senators Friday that President Bush's domestic spying exceeds the wrongdoing that toppled his former boss.
Bush, Dean told the Senate Judiciary Committee, should be censured and possibly impeached. "Censure" is not something the Senate can do to a President. The President is not using warrantless surveillance on domestic targets.

Why do the Democrat Senators sound like they would be more at home in Imperial Rome?
Why did they feel the need to resort to telling lies right off the bat?
Do the Democrats really think that a nomination has to pass their litmus test rather than simply being a well-qualified individual? What happened to judging people by the content of their character?
I am both amused and annoyed that Democrats continue to pretend that a judge nominated by Republicans cannot be outwardly conservative:
"You give the impression of being a meticulous legal navigator, but, in the end, you always seem to chart a rightward course," added Chuck Schumer of New York. while judges nominated by Democrats are allowed to be openly liberal.
Do they really think that no one sees the double standard?
As for the outright lies about Alito, they speak ill of any effort by Democrats to be fair and impartial. Current Mood : ammoyed Tags : samuel alito, senate
