obama money
$3 trillion invested instead of spent.
Let's say you get in your time machine and spin back to 2008. You convince politicians to invest $3 trillion instead of simply blowing it on bailouts and stimulus schemes.

Some samples of what could have been (or might be, depending on where you are in your time machine):
  • $3 trillion invested in Apple stock at an average price of $80 a share yields 37.5 billion shares of Apple stock. Now ignoring the affect of buying (and selling) that much stuck, you could then sell it today at say an average price of $200 a share and return $7.5 trillion to the taxpayers and/or pay off an additional $4.5 trillion in debt.

  • $3 trillion invested in gold at $75 an ounce yields 45 billion ounces of gold. Again ignoring the market distortions from buying/selling that much gold, selling it today at $105 an ounce yields $4.2 trillion.

  • $3 trillion invested in a Dow Jones index fund would garner a 25% gain, or an additional $750 billion.

What he have instead are $3 trillion mostly wasted; either used to prop up companies that should have been allowed to go bankrupt or cycled through the Washington bureaucracy and then used to bribe voters into thinking money had been "spent" in their area "creating or saving" jobs.

This is one of the reasons they don't teach math or logic in many union-controlled schools. You can't bribe people with their own money if they know math and logic!

Now for all you people who think the "stimulus" was a great idea: please send me all of your money. I promise to travel right to your very neighborhood to spend most some of it! Think of all the jobs you'll create or save in the process!

Suckers.

They're not just making up jobs...
They're also making up the places they've been "created" or "saved" in!

Ever been to the 99th Congressional district in the US Virgin Islands? Hopefully not because it doesn't exist! Yet recovery.gov shows that jobs were "created or saved" there. The administration is of course blaming "stupid people" for not knowing what district they are in. So someone who lives in the tiny island territory of the US Virgin Islands thinks they have more than one district? Seriously? And remember, these number are supposed to be "certified" by both the Obama administration and the recipients (the US Virgin Islands governor, among others) and these numbers are entered into the much ballyhooed "state of the art" website that is recovery.org. And nowhere along that way was any fact checking done? Then again, that does sound like a typical liberal policy/program, doesn't it?

I told you the Obama administration is just making up numbers and now they are even making up the places where these mythical jobs exist. Isn't it amazing how all these brilliant leaders of liberal administrations and entities keep hiring such incompetent people to execute their orders? Why everyone from ACORN to Obama is shocked, shocked they say, to find incompetent people carrying out their lawful, innocent orders. (I have several bridges to sell you if you bought that!)

And need I remind you yet again that this is exactly how the Obama administration wants to "count" people for the census!

Have you heard the one about...
Have you heard the one about where a President uses money borrowed under a previous administration in an attempt to make is own outrageous deficits appear smaller?

Sadly, it's no joke. The Obama administration is proposing that money borrowed under TARP (during 2008) be used to "pay down the deficit" in the 2010 fiscal year. Remember when politicians told us we'd have another Great Depression if we didn't allocate this money immediately to save the financial markets? And here more than a year later it remains unused, along with most of a second round of even more massive "emergency" spending. (See the trend?)

If the Obama administration succeeds it will be a new low in corrupting democracy. In the future Democrats will simply borrow huge amounts of money at the end of Republican terms and then "reallocate" that money to pay down debts in a succeeding term of a Democrat. This makes the Republican spending look higher that it is and the Democrat spending lower than it is.

Talk about robbing George to pay Barrack! Unused TARP money should remain unused, as in unborrowed, as in the President rescinding the funds. With reports that anywhere from $400-600 billion was used from TARP funding that would make the 2008 deficit almost $200 billion lower. What Obama hopes to do, of course, is make his own outrageous deficits look $200 billion smaller.

Note to Democrats who parrot talking points: this is vastly different than Senator Brownback's proposal to pay down the federal debt with money repaid by firms that borrowed it. If you don't understand why you shouldn't be attempting to argue other people's talking points.

There's theory and there's real life
The American people are realizing that whatever may sound good about socialized medicine in theory is in reality a clusterfuck of immense proportions.

How long will it take people like Paul Krugman to admit there's a difference? (The road to Hell and all that.)

Remember, once you give the government the power to make decisions on your behalf you will never, ever get it back short of a revolution or civil war.

Lies, damned lies and the health care debate
The faux victim stories are making the rounds in the press. And just like all those jobs "saved or created" by Obama, no one can really point to a specific job but everyone has "estimates". And, of course, it is usually some poor, orphaned, Hispanic, black waif who fought in Iraq that suffers the most.

Never mind that careful analysis says those guesses are wrong:
Obamacare is predicated on the assumption that the federal government has the knowledge, capacity, and will to drive greater efficiency in American health care. Inadvertently, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has become an articulate spokesman for why that assumption is dead wrong.

We must press forward even if it kills us! And it probably will, too. Once our economy has been ruined by punitive taxes and our infrastructure destroyed by incorrect "priorities" we'll be left with little to rebuild with.

And that assumes that a majority of the population that voted itself into slavery will want out.

The Democrats may be evil, but they are not stupid. They've realized that they can't bully people into a plantation/segregated life but they can trick them into it. All the talk of the benevolent government taking care of all of your needs and protecting you from imagined enemies smacks of the stories that plantation masters used to tell their slaves. Only this time the slaves are eagerly lining up and volunteering to be enslaved.

Sadly, it has only taken a generation to get us here. It will take far longer to recover from the damage Democrat policies are going to cause. And it's not going to be pretty, either. Economic chains of the new slavery are just as confining as the iron chains of old slavery.

Predictions
1) Cao (the Republican (for now) Representative who voted for the slavery bill) will switch to the Democratic Party.

2) Democrats know that the economic/monetary shit will hit the fan and they only have a very short window to trick the people into approving massive new spending programs so they will attempt to festoon them with fake incentives like tax cuts ("targeted", of course) which never really kick-in. (Just like their promised "spending cuts" of the 80s and 90s.)

3) Barack Obama will approve a few more troops for Afghanistan while at the same time announcing to have "changed" the Bush era policies and even though he already has more troops deployed to the region that Bush ever did he will claim to have "reduced" American presence there. He will then cut a deal with Iran where Iran pretends to help with Afghanistan while Obama sells out Israel.

4) Obama will also pretend that 8 million jobs haven't been lost since he took office and will continue to claim that "lots" of jobs have been "saved or created" by his massive stimulus bill (which has both not really taken effect yet and already saved us).

5) Sarah Palin will hit #1 on the best seller chart and be invited on Oprah.

ETA: Sarah about her appearance on Oprah. Should I make this "again"? :D

6) Obama will attempt a "back door" attack on Fox News by attacking their licensing through the FCC and attempting to reinstate the "fairness" doctrine. (Similar to the way Clinton used the IRS to attack his enemies.)

7) The Democrats in Congress will pass (another) massive tax increase under the guise of "soaking the rich" and "reducing" the deficit.

8) The Democrats will use tragedies involving guns to attempt another ban on guns.

9) Obama will reduce the size of the US navy by mothballing boomers and fleet carriers.

10) US GDP growth will never exceed 4% annually until socialism (and slavery) are rolled back.

Heck, let's go for the trifecta!
Since Obama took office 8 million jobs have been lost.

Not imaginary jobs like the administration counts for the "stimulus", but real, tangible jobs. Remember when the Democrats claimed that a million jobs being lost while Bush was President was the end of the world? Once again Obama outdoes Bush with eight times as many unemployed and the clock is still ticking for Obama. (Note also the sustained growth in employment from 2002-7 for President Bush, something the Democrats and MSM will never admit happened.)

In honor of 10.2% unemployment...a blast from the past!
President Obama warning about 10% unemployment...if his stimulus bill was not passed:
President-elect Obama is warning this morning that the economy “could become dramatically worse” and face unemployment above 10 percent without bipartisan support for a massive government stimulus program that would temporarily add to the record federal budget deficit but would “save or create at least three million jobs over the next few years.”
But remember, this is all Bush's fault and Bush made him spend three trillion dollars and Bush, Bush, BUSH!

Those of us who remember our history can recall that at this point in 1981 President Reagan had passed his tax cuts measure and in the summer of 1982 the economy began rocking and rolling into the greatest peace time expansion ever.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to explain why unemployment is two points higher than he claimed it would be at this point in time. Though I'm sure his useful fools will simply continue the "Bush!" chant.

The administration that can't count
As it becomes clearer and clearer by the day that the Obama administration is simply making up the number of jobs "saved or created" two things are becoming quite clear.

First, the money given to bureaucracies was simply used to give people raises. So not only were those jobs not "at risk" but the bureaucrats used your tax dollars to further feather their nests. What was that again about a government run health care program not having to "worry" about the "profit" motive? I think waste, fraud and abuse accounts for far more money than the "profit" motive, which actually improves goods and services.

Secondly, this is a clear demonstration of how the administration wishes to "count" people in the coming census. Do they need more Democrat representation in a region? No problem, just invent more Democrat voters! Want to marginalize areas that don't vote for you? No problem, just invent a population decrease for that area!

If you need more evidence just look at the administration attempts to defend these made up numbers as reasonable! For example, when the fact that they counted raises as a job "saved or created" they attempted to defend the notion that a raise was evidence that "part of a job was saved". Worse yet there was no defense at all offered for counting this mythical "part of a job saved" as a whole job. In other areas the number of jobs listed as "saved or created" (usually in union friendly sectors such as teaching and "community organizing") was greater than the number of jobs that existed in the first place. (!)

This is all you are going to get from the most "open and transparent" administration ever. They are simply going to lie to you and expect you to shut up and take it. If the big Democrat loses yesterday didn't send a message to this administration perhaps crushing losses for incumbents in 2010 will.

Obama's "realpolitik": voting "present"
Obama finally stated that he will announce a new Afghan policy..."in a few weeks". So, see you next year?

The press is (finally) reporting that Obama's foreign policy team(s) are "coming down to Earth". This was inevitable. After declaring hosts of things would be "different" than what the Bush administration had done the Obama administration has quietly continued to implement Bush policies on numerous fronts (while still declaring to be doing things "differently").

And in the area of foreign policy we find that Obama is again a lot like Bush. 41 even more so than 43!

Obama's strategy (if one can call it that) appears to be a mix of dithering and passive-aggressive attempts to "charm" the other side into agreeing with him. For example, Hillary Clinton breezed into the Middle East proudly proclaiming Obama's support for Israel, apparently convinced that Obama's charm (and her own, of course) would cause the various opponents of Israel to simply shrug and say "gee, when you put it that way, how can we say no?"

The frosty response they got instead has caused them to publicly backtrack from their emphatic support for Israel. Which is a shame because it is about the only thing they had maintained an emphatic pose about all year!

In Pakistan Hillary Clinton expresses astonishment that no one in the government seems to know what is going on. Clearly our past difficulties in the region where all Bush's fault, so it was merely a matter of showing up and declaring that the best and the brightest were on the job now for that region to fall neatly into order, right? Or...Hillary finds out that we are working, at best, with a tenuous grip on the few moderates in the Pakistani government who are at odds with the Taliban allies in their own government. (Recall that the Pakistani ISI created the Taliban!) Good luck hoping that situation will change soon!

I expect the coming year will be a lot like the last year. A lot of declarations about doing things "differently" than Bush while quietly continuing his policies and hoping that someone, somewhere catches Obama fever and hands him the foreign policy equivalent of his unearned Nobel Peace Prize.

In the mean time, we can always gaze back upon the "good old days" of the Reagan years, when the US could successfully maneuver nations into doing our bidding with the only kind of realpolitik that counts: an impressive military which can back up our reasonable "requests" for help.

Health care debate. At the end of the day the Constitution should prevail
Aside from the arguments about whether the government can run health care systems better than private enterprise (they can't) or more efficiently (they can't) or provide health insurance to everyone at a lower cost (they can't) is the question of whether the Constitution allows the government to even do what they are attempting to do.

Certainly providing for health care is not a power delegated to the government by the people. In addition the Constitution forbids involuntary servitude, and the last time I checked the government forcing you to do something (it doesn't have the power to do) under threat of penalty amounts to slavery.

So if you respect the Constitution (as it is written) and are against slavery then you should also be against the attempt by the Obama administration to usurp the power of the people and institute a form of slavery.

The real lesson of the White House garden
The real lesson in this story is not quite what the Obamas wish it to be.

While they are going on and on about how wonderful a garden is the real lesson learned here is that someone else did all the work for the garden to produce all that wonderful food but in the end it was the Obamas who benefited from it and decided where the food would go.

The Obamas, of course, would have you believe that the garden simply tended itself and that after Michelle planted a few seeds the rest magically were sewn into the ground and bore fruit a few months later.

Just like those money trees the evil rich have.

For those paying attention the actual moral of the story is that gardens bear fruit best when well-tended. And the best way to have a well-tended garden is to give someone a vested interest in the products of the garden. This concept is often referred to as the "profit motive".

Something to chew on, even if you are an Obama.

It's all about credibility
When it comes to credibility the Obama administration is seriously lacking when it comes to the economy.

After a series of vacillating (and contradictory) statements on what his policies have and haven't done for the economy even the administration's paltry job creation numbers have proven to be as ethereal as Obama's plans for the Middle East.
The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.

The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.

Of course I've been saying all along that the administration is just making up numbers. That's what they have to do because nothing in the stimulus bills can be verified as a job creation process. Like a lot of liberals the administration believes its own talking points about people being unable to create jobs on their own and only government spending and policies enable job creation.

Painfully for America the administration will be slow to give up such notions. It's too bad that tax cuts are considered "Republican" ideas because that is exactly what is needed right now. And it wouldn't take $3 trillion worth of tax cuts to stimulate the economy, either.

Obama administration tries to shut out Fox News
Apparently even the MSM has reached its limit for tolerating the Obama administration's attempts to circumvent the Constitution.

This time the administration attempted to shut out Fox News from interviews of administration officials. To their credit, the rest of the MSM got together and told the administration that this was one "general welfare" abuse too many and they would not stand for it. The administration backed down (this time) but you know their war against Fox News is still going on.

I'm betting their radical FCC Chairman will be the next person to take shots at Fox News. Also look for the administration to pressure cable and satellite networks carrying Fox News.

After all, it's really, really bad for this administration to know that the truth is out there—and its on Fox News!

Why the dollar continues to fall
No one (outside of the MSM) believes the Obama administration stories that the end of the recession is "just around the corner".

In fact, the conflicting messages coming out of Washington over spending, what to "stimulate", whether jobs are being created (or "saved") and a continued backing of growth-killing tax hikes is demonstrating to the world that the administration doesn't know which way is up.

So unprecedented spending plus a lack of confidence in the administration's ability to do anything (effective) when it comes to the economy adds up to a plunging dollar.

But you have to expect that to happens when you elect people (like those in the Obama administration) who think a crisis in a way to get what you want by scaring people into going along with your ideas. Extending the crisis through policy decisions becomes attractive to those kinds of people!

I can't wait for the next two years. We will keep hearing that the "stimulus" has already worked and thus we should be happy we spent all that money but also that things are worse than anyone knew and its Bush's fault that that we're in this mess so Obama can't be blamed for wanting higher taxes.

Welcome to "change"! It is what you had hoped for? Nobody knew that what Obama really meant was that the dollar would only be worth "change" after he was elected!

I'm waiting to hear the outcry from people who fussed over budget deficits under Bush
Because Obama's first one is a whopper.
WASHINGTON – What is $1.42 trillion? It's more than the total national debt for the first 200 years of the Republic, more than the entire economy of India, almost as much as Canada's, and more than $4,700 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

It's the federal budget deficit for 2009, more than three times the most red ink ever amassed in a single year.

You read that correctly.

Obama tripled the deficit his first year in office. So where is all the concern about budget deficits three times higher than the highest deficit under Bush...you know, back when deficits were allegedly a sign that the universe was ending?

I keep listening but all I hear are the sounds of crickets.

"Let us beware that while they [Soviet rulers] preach the supremacy of the state, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination over all the peoples of the earth, they are the focus of evil in the modern world.... I urge you to beware the temptation ... to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong, good and evil."
