So...
Does anyone else find it ironic that after the latest troop increase in Afghanistan President Obama now has more troops deployed in that region than President Bush ever did?

I hope he keeps that peace prize polished!

George W. Bush appointed the first (second?) Hispanic to the Supreme Court
Or he would have if the Democrats didn't viciously attack and filibuster the nomination of Miguel Estrada.

Where are the MSM headlines about the Democrats "alienating" the Hispanic voters over that one?

Plus Benjamin Cardozo was Hispanic if you decide that descendants of Portuguese immigrants qualify, which would make Herbert Hoover the first President to appoint a Hispanic. (Plus he was Jewish, to boot!)

How's that for identity politics?

Legendary hypocrisy
Bush deficits: about 1.2-3.5% GDP (1.2% in 2007)
Deficit once Democrats gained control of Congress: about 4% GDP (in 2008)
Deficit with Obama and Democrats in power: 12% GDP (in 2009)

Liberal verdict: Bush was an out of control spender who is forcing Obama and Congress to spend as much as they have.

Bush on terrorists: Use Guantanamo and wiretaps to fight terrorism.
Obama on terrorists: Use Guantanamo (for now) and wiretaps to fight terrorism.

Liberal verdict: Bush is shredding the Constitution. Obama has/will completely reversed these policies.

Bush on Iraq and Afghanistan: use about 150-200 thousand troops to combat enemy forces. Be out of the region (except for bases) in about 5 years.
Obama on Iraq and Afghanistan: use about 150-200 thousand troops to combat enemy forces. Be out of the region (except for bases) in about 5 years.

Liberal verdict: Bush is losing the war with his unrealistic and unwise policies. Obama has thoughtfully changed American policies in the region and is winning friends and influencing enemies.

Bush on Iran: Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
Obama on Iran: He will give Iran a few more months to think about their behavior. He's sure a dialogue will resolve the situation.

Liberal verdict: Bush wants to invade Iran and bomb them back to the stone age. Obama will make Iran see the light, just like India, Pakistan and North Korea saw the light during the Clinton administration.

Bush economic policies: Tax cuts help spur an expansion from 2002-7. Republican warnings about housing go unheaded by Democrats in Congress until it is too late.
Obama economic policies: Borrowing on a scale not seen since WWII. Entire industries destroyed as he forces companies out of business. Unemployment, the deficit and other economic indicators worsen severely.

Liberal verdict: Anything bad is Bush's fault. Obama is being forced to do all of this except where he wants to do it, then it is courage and convictions that will lead us all to a utopia where everything is free and only Republicans have to work for a living.

Jack Kemp on the Bush tax cuts
Jack Kemp writing in 2005 about the Bush tax cuts.
The economy and the stock market weren't the only things the Bush tax rate reductions restored to health; they also revived federal revenues and will reduce the budget deficit by some $60 billion from last year's level. As the Wall Street Journal pointed out last week, "So far this year federal tax revenues are booming. Overall, in the first seven months of Fiscal Year 2005 through April 30, they climbed by $146 billion to a total of $1.216 trillion. That's an increase of 13.6 percent over a year earlier, some four or five times the inflation rate, and the kind of raise that most American families can only dream about."

I bet liberals hate it when hard economic data refutes their massaged "studies" that attempt to cast tax cuts in a negative light.

The "whites only" myth: Bush Derangement Syndrome continues
The left is still at it: inventing ways to hate President Bush even as he moves to exit the White House.

The latest wave of nauseating nonsense is that the President is moving to a "whites only" neighborhood.

Um, no.

Racially restrictive covenants have been illegal since the Civil Rights Act of 1866, though it took a 1968 Supreme Court ruling (Jones v. Mayer) to stop people from futzing with the meaning of "illegal" and whether it applied to "private" contracts.

The covenants remain in many properties (including those of the Kennedy and Biden family, until they were exposed) because it takes a formal legal process to remove them and also because they are legally unenforceable.

Apparently the neighborhood association got around to formally removing the language in a 2000 update of the covenants, but as mentioned they have been illegal since 1866 and unenforceable since 1968.

And President Bush had absolutely nothing to do with them.

But that won't stop the left from slobbering all over themselves as they spin yet another racist myth about President Bush.

OMG how gay
You knew that was coming, right?

When San Francisco was trying to go against the law and issue marriage licenses I said it was wrong and they should go through the courts. Now that they have I can say it was the right decision.

Because I want to be invited to Ellen DeGeneres' wedding. ;)

In other news Ted Kennedy is in the hospital with seizures. And...there's no joke following that.

President Bush failed to get oil production increased during a trip to the Mid East. Well, duh. He can't get it increased in the US so why should anyone else do it when he asks?

Speaking of the President, did you notice how the Democrats howled when he criticized appeasement (hitting close to home?) and then turned around and continued to criticize his Iraq policies? Do they think we can't see the hypocrisy?

These people are starting to make McCain look appealing!

Why the President vetoed the Trojan horse "health care" bill
Something to show liberals when they start making false accusations about "the children, TEH CHILDREN!"

http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2007/10/white-house-on-schip.html

The green line is the Congressional "expected" funding. The red dotted line is the "expected reality" funding.

Be sure to ask them when the last time Congress has cut a program by 50-100%. Yeah, never.

No funding for adults. No funding for illegal aliens. No funding for people who can afford it on their own.

I can't imagine any middle class taxpayer who is going to say they are in favor of higher taxes to fund government health insurance for those groups.

Do we even need to venture into the hypocritical Democrat attacks about the size of the deficit? Probably, but that's another post. :D

Another MSM Big Lie campaign: Bush didn't say Nelson Mandela was dead
The MSM is at it again. After recent Big Lie campaigns against Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh the MSM has once again turned to President Bush, claiming he said that "Nelson Mandela was dead".

No, he did not. When you see or read what the President actually said it is quite clear that he is speaking metaphorically:
Part of the reason why there is not this instant democracy in Iraq is because people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein's brutal rule. I thought an interesting comment was made when somebody said to me, I heard somebody say, where's Mandela? Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas. He was a brutal tyrant that divided people up and split families, and people are recovering from this. So there's a psychological recovery that is taking place. And it's hard work for them. And I understand it's hard work for them. Having said that, I'm not going the give them a pass when it comes to the central government's reconciliation efforts.

But still the hate speech machines grind on, claiming that Bush made a "faux pas" or a "gaffe".

The only thing embarrassing is the lengths to which the left will go to smear someone on the right.

Question for the hate-filled people on the left: why don't you understand something as basic as a a metaphor? I suggest some remedial classes in language are in order for everyone who screamed "gaffe!" or "faux pas!" or some other nonsense instead of what really happened.

Jail or pardon?
This puts more pressure on the President to pardon him.
WASHINGTON (AP) - I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby began making prison arrangements Thursday after a federal judge refused to delay the former White House aide's 2 1/2-year sentence in the CIA leak case.

Frankly, I don't care whether he serves the time (as he was found guilty) or is pardoned (because the case was bullshit).

It is a sad commentary on our legal system that he is going to jail while Sandy Berger is a free man, though.

I won't even go into how the article makes it sound like the Bush administration leaked Valerie Plame's name. The MSM has its agenda and the Big Lie is in full force on this one.

It's dead, George
I think we need to channel DeForest Kelly because apparently the President doesn't realize how dead this bill is.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush, wading deeper into an issue that bitterly divides his party, hopes a personal appeal to fellow Republicans at lunch Tuesday can save his immigration bill.

Bush scheduled a rare visit to the Capitol, seeking to change enough minds among GOP senators to salvage a top domestic priority. The measure, which legalizes up to 12 million unlawful immigrants and tightens border security, stalled last week in the face of broad Republican opposition.

It's dead, George, let it go.

Bush receives hero's welcome in Albania
Apparently there are no Democrats in Albania.
TIRANA, Albania (AP) - President Bush, enthusiastically welcomed as the first U.S. president in this former communist nation, served notice Sunday he is running out of patience with Russia's objections to independence for neighboring Kosovo.

"Sooner rather than later you've got to say 'Enough's enough - Kosovo is independent,'" Bush said, telling Albanians what they wanted to hear. He said independence was a certainty.

I think it is safe to say that Kosovian independence is a winning issue in Albania.

It is still unconstitutional
Cash on the barrel head, 90 days same as cash, 12 months interest free...no matter how you slice it it is still unconstitutional.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Democratic-controlled House voted Thursday night to pay for military operations in Iraq on an installment plan, defying President Bush's threat of a second straight veto in a fierce test of wills over the unpopular war.

Hint: quit tying funding to the exercise of executive branch power.

A revealing video
What this video doesn't say, and who doesn't say it says a lot about the current state of al Qaeda.
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - A new video of al-Qaida's No. 2 leader released on Saturday mocks President Bush and U.S. legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, saying the bill would rob the group's fighters of the chance to kill more Americans.

First of all, where is Bin Laden? He's getting harder to hear from than an honest Democrat.
Saturday's video was the fifth message - including posted video and audio tapes - by al-Zawahri this year. Osama bin Laden has not surfaced in any communications since mid-2006.

Hopefully, it is because he is dead.

Secondly, Al-Zawahri speaks as if the bill passed. Either al Qaeda doesn't understand how democracies work (probable) or they feel that even seeing such a bill get through Congress as a victory for their side (likely).

Al Zawahri also says something else the likes of which should sound familiar to some.
"Al-Qaida is not merely for the benefit of Muslims," he said. "That's why I want blacks in America, people of color, American Indians, Hispanics, and all the weak and oppressed in North and South America, in Africa and Asia, and all over the world."

Where have I heard rhetoric like that before?

President Bush vetoes Democrat surrender bill
Good thing, too. All that talk of "working with Democrats" had me worried that he was about to cave on this issue.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq Tuesday night in a historic showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.

I'll help the AP rewrite that first paragraph: President Bush vetoed an unconstitutional bill that would have forced an American surrender in Iraq.

There's nothing worse than surrendering to a bunch of cowards.

A step in the right direction
President Bush zigs while the Democrats zag.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush named Republican fundraiser Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress, where Democrats had derailed Fox's nomination.

The appointment, made while lawmakers were out of town on spring break, prompted angry rebukes from Democrats, who said Bush's action may even be illegal.

Democrats had denounced Fox for his donation to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential campaign. The group's TV ads, which claimed that Sen. John Kerry exaggerated his military record in Vietnam, were viewed as a major factor in the Massachusetts Democrat's election loss.

Recognizing Fox did not have the votes to obtain Senate confirmation in the Foreign Relations Committee, Bush withdrew the nomination last week. On Wednesday, with the Senate on a one-week break, the president used his power to make recess appointments to put Fox in the job without Senate confirmation.

Good for him. The Democrats were acting like petulant children on this issue.

Oh, and for you Democrats about to object to this, I hope you remember that President Clinton used his recess appointment power to appoint James Hormel ambassador to Luxembourg. (In just one example out of 140 such appointments.)

Obama lies about his past and the President
I guess if you are going to tell lies, they might as well be big ones.

Barack Obama claims to be a professor (he's not) and then says it is the President who does not respect the Constitution.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Friday accused President Bush of failing to respect the Constitution amid the uproar over the firing of eight federal prosecutors.

The Illinois senator also took a swipe at embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Obama has joined several other Democrats in calling for Gonzales to resign.

"I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution," Obama told an audience at a campaign fundraiser. "I believe in an attorney general who is actually the people's lawyer, not the president's lawyer."

Obama, of course, failed to note just how the President disrespected the Constitution or how Gonzales was not being a lawyer for the people.

Typical.

About that claim to be a professor....
Responding to Obama's comments, Dan Ronayne, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said, "Senator Obama needs to understand that at this level words matter and he will be scrutinized."

Ronayne pointed that Obama was only a senior lecturer and not a full professor. The University of Chicago lists him as a senior lecturer on leave.

Poor Barack, he's just another left wing hack. Liberals will have to keep looking for a savior. Obama is just a pretender.

What the hell is Bush doing about North Korea?
Oops, never mind.
BEIJING (AP) - North Korea agreed Tuesday to shut down its main nuclear reactor within 60 days at talks with the U.S. and four regional powers and eventually dismantle its atomic weapons program.

Under the deal, the North will receive an initial 50,000 tons worth of aid in heavy fuel oil for shutting down and sealing its main nuclear reactor, to be confirmed by international inspectors, Chinese envoy Wu Dawei said. The North eventually will receive another 950,000 tons in aid for irreversibly disabling the reactor.

So much for all the "advice" from the left that he duplicate the bribes that Clinton & Co. gave North Korea to make them "behave".

I guess North Korea decided that President Bush is not the sucker that President Clinton was.

President Bush has had North Korea pegged from the start. North Korea has nothing as a bargaining chip. The thing about nuclear weapons for North Korea is that they are only good as a retaliatory threat. You can't bandy them about as first strike weapons or you piss off China and Russia, your two main trading partners and make South Korea, Japan and Taiwan all think about going nuclear...which also pisses off China.

North Korea had nowhere to go. All we needed was a patient President. Kudos to Condi Rice as well. She always knew that China was the key to getting North Korea to behave. All the more delicious is the way the left demonized President Bush and Secretary of State Rice over this method of bringing North Korea back to reality. Clearly they were right and the left was wrong about Korea. Again.

Condi for President, anyone?

A Random Reagan Quote

"Let us beware that while they [Soviet rulers] preach the supremacy of the state, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination over all the peoples of the earth, they are the focus of evil in the modern world.... I urge you to beware the temptation ... to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong, good and evil."
