EU President Mirek Topolanek thinks the US is headed in the wrong direction.
STRASBOURG, France – The president of the European Union on Wednesday slammed U.S. plans to spend its way out of recession as "a road to hell."
Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, told the European Parliament that President Barack Obama's massive stimulus package and banking bailout "will undermine the liquidity of the global financial market."
I have to agree. Once the US has printed several trillion dollars and ignited hyperinflation who will step in with more dollars to subsidize failure?

Once again rejecting freedom and equality for "other people", the Eurosocialists in the Netherlands joined France in rejecting the proposed European Union constitution.
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Dutch voters worried about social benefits and immigration overwhelmingly rejected the European Union constitution Wednesday in what could be a knockout blow for a charter meant to create a power rivaling the United States.
With nearly all votes counted, the charter lost 62 percent to 38 percent, an even worse defeat than the 55 percent "no" vote delivered in a French referendum Sunday.
Well, we can't have the unwashed masses getting in on the social benefits provided by the few Dutch people who actually work, can we? I mean, more Dutch people might actually have to get jobs to support all of "those people". You know, the ones who live in "the bad part" of Europe. The uncultured, uneducated masses yearning to be free.
It is no different in this country. For all the talking the left does about worker rights and equality, the reject the very notion when it means workers in other countries get to be equal and have opportunity.
Ah, it warms the heart to see such open hypocrisy by the left. Fewer people will be tricked by their propaganda in the future. In the mean time, the mess in Europe means less competition for American businesses and people like George Soros who bet against the dollar and for the Euro will continue to get hammered in the currency markets.

What can you say about the French?
(Well, okay, one can say a lot about that country.)
I hope no one is surprised that the French have rejected what is largely their own initiative to bring the European continent together under a single super-national government.
What did that movement in, and French support for such a construct, was the left:
Although Chirac argued that the constitution would streamline EU decision-making and make the bloc more accessible to its 450 million citizens, opponents feared it would strip France of its sovereignty and generous social system and trigger an influx of cheap labor.
Once again the left demonstrates that when it means "living wages" and "secure retirement" it means for members of the leftist movement, not everyone.
The left purports to be fighting for the poor and oppressed, but when something that actually helps poor people, such as free trade or European unification arises but does not include mandatory membership in leftist organizations, the left opposes it for purely selfish reasons.
We are told that Social Security cannot be privatized because some people might to better than others, and that some people being worse off is simply unacceptable. Yet the opposition to the EU treaty in France openly states that their own cushy retirements are reason to reject change. Shouldn't everyone have the same benefits in Europe?
The left always tries to rationalize its hypocrisy. It will be amusing and informative to see them try to rationalize this bit of flip-flopping.

Europeans are having a hard time finding a government that doesn't offend anyone (except Christians and Jews, of course):
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Parliament on Thursday threatened to veto the entire incoming European Union executive commission unless Italy's nominee for Justice Commissioner - who earlier described homosexuality as a sin - was dropped from the list.
A "no" vote next Thursday by the 732-member European Parliament could trigger an unprecedented situation: Incoming European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's team would become a mere caretaker government. They would be limited to managing routine, day-to-day business, but unable to take on any significant or fresh initiatives.
It's so nice to know that the EU will be bogged down by political correctness for decades to come.
