Utterly disgusting.
The board has now responded that such requests and thus abortions can not be refused and that it is not possible to deny a woman an abortion up to the 18th week of pregnancy, even if the foetus's gender is the basis for the request. "Designer children" can't be far behind.

These are not new revelations about Planned Parenthood and these are not isolated cases.
I think we all know the outcry from the left and the MSM that would occur if a company were to merely sell guns to children, for example.
Yet when it comes to killing their children of the victims and protecting the men that raped them there is nary a peep from either one. Indeed, some on the left openly state that the men should not be considered rapists and that Planned Parenthood is doing nothing wrong.
Do they actually have to install ovens before it becomes socially unacceptable to those people?
Update: Planned Parenthood has suspended the worker involved in the Indiana undercover operation.
ETA: The primary purpose of this post was to highlight the illegal behavior of Planned Parenthood. While a debate about the merits of (not) having an abortion is always a fun discussion (*cough*) I think that is best left for another post. :)

When will politicians learn that you cannot legislate scientific progress?
NEW YORK (AP) - In a leap forward for stem cell research, three independent teams of scientists reported Wednesday that they have produced the equivalent of embryonic stem cells in mice without the controversial destruction of embryos.
They got ordinary skin cells to behave like stem cells. If the same could be done with human cells - a big if - the procedure could lead to breakthrough medical treatments without the contentious ethical and political debates surrounding the use of embryos. I know this is terrible news for the abortion industry. I guess they'll have to find another use for their byproducts.

Planned Parenthood has reacted to the latest scandal where it is shown to be coaching underage girls on how to protect the people who rape them by suing the woman who went undercover to catch them in the act. Ludicrously they claim that the reporter should "...be more respectful of California laws". Gee, like the laws stating that you have to report rape?!
Planned Parenthood Threatens To Sue Undercover Activist...you'll love reading the quote from the Planned Parenthood official lecturing the student about complying with the law..."we think Lila needs to be more respectful of California laws" And in what is sure to disappoint people like jblaque, who claim that I can't call the perpetrator of rape a rapist, the courts agree with me and sent the rapist to jail.
It was one of the worst cases of child abuse Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel has ever seen - and she has seen a few.
"I thought I would get held in contempt of court because I argued it so vigorously in court," she said, still outraged by the case eight months later. "The father was basically treating his daughter like she was his wife."
John Blanks Jr. of Mason was sentenced to five years - one year in prison for every year he molested his daughter, beginning when she was 13. "She had to get up out of his bed in the morning and go to school, if you can imagine what that was like," Hutzel said. I'm sure Mr. Blanks will appreciate your letters of support and outrage over his victimhood, Mr. Blaque.
In the meantime law-abiding citizens will demand an investigation into Planned Parenthood's practices.

From all over the internets: Planned Parenthood shielding rapists.
Lila Rose is an 18-year-old student journalist at UCLA. She's editor-in-chief of Live Action's The Advocate. Rose recently went undercover at a local campus Planned Parenthood clinic, posing as a 15-year-old minor seeking an abortion after being impregnated by a 23-year-old man. The worker at Planned Parenthood coached her on how to lie on the forms so as not to trigger the mandatory reporting law. Tragically, this isn't speculation. It happens all the time at Planned Parenthood clinics around the country. In one instance a 16 year old girl told Planned Parenthood her father (who had brought her in for an abortion) was abusing her. Planned Parenthood did nothing and the girl was raped for another year and a half by the father before finally being caught.
When an organization supports abortion at any price, the price will be very high indeed. Current Mood : disgusted Tags : abortion, child abuse, planned parenthood, rape, scandals Location : Home

After hearing the (mostly hysterical) reaction from the left on the recent Supreme Court ruling on abortion, do you think they would be willing to roll back gun control laws to the point where only one version of one gun was illegal? You know, to put it on equal footing with abortion.
I'm willing to give up atomic weapons, especially if I can have an aircraft carrier.
Now I just need some place to park it....

Here is the text of the decision. If you haven't already read it I strongly encourage you to do so.
http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/06pdf/05-380.pdf
Too many people are arguing from positions of ignorance on this topic.
Myths:
- Abortion has been banned or restricted.
One variant of one procedure has been ruled to be illegal. Access to abortion has not been banned or restricted. The AMA states that there have always been alternatives to this procedure.
- The Supreme Court is practicing medicine.
Funny how this wasn't the charge when they ruled in Roe v. Wade, eh? The fact is that the Supreme Court heard evidence from medical experts in the field and based their decision (in part) on that testimony. The Supreme Court focuses on the law, not medicine.
- The decision is flawed because the majority were all men.
Again, this wasn't the concern in 1973 or the fact that the minority opinion was majority male. The fact is that both men and women have legitimate concerns and input over abortion and as noted above, the Supreme Court is focusing on the law and not gender politics.
- The decision ignores precedent.
This is not the case. In fact, when the Supreme Court last ruled on partial birth abortion bans it spelled out how that law could be modified to conform to the Constitution. That is precisely what was done with the current law. Nor is precedent something that is never overturned. The Supreme Court has for example ruled in the past that people are property (slaves) and that separate but equal education facilities were lawful until other courts overturned those rulings.
Hopefully this will help everyone debate the topic from a more informed position.

The "squeamish" need not apply.
And by "squeamish", the abortion on demand crowd apparently means people who believe in medical ethics.
Because, don't you know, medicine is "gross" and things like "ethics" and "morality" don't apply when it comes to anything a (pregnant) woman "chooses" to do.
We've seen medicine without morality. It is beyond "gross".
Why is it too much to ask that once a pregnancy reaches a certain point that the baby should be delivered (absent a threat to the life of the mother)? A woman has ample opportunities for "choice" before sex, during sex and for weeks and even months after sex. At some point the life inside her has rights which need protected as well. I think stating that not having its skull crushed in an otherwise live birth is a very small thing to ask for and a very reasonable right to recognize.
There are plenty of opportunities for choice in the first trimester (something I support) and even into the second and in some cases the third trimester. There is no need to insist that abortion be available in any form at any time. Is abortion so special that it is the one medical procedure that cannot have limits placed on it? I think we would all agree that if the same procedure were performed on someone convicted to die for crimes they committed it would be ruled as "cruel and unusual" punishment. Is a lethal injection too much to ask?
Edit: The American Medical Association agrees.
According to the scientific literature, there does not appear to be any identified situation in which intact D&X is the only appropriate procedure to induce abortion, and ethical concerns have been raised about intact D&X. This should not be a surprise to anyone. The AMA has supported a ban on partial birth abortions for years.
The AMA maintains its support for HR 1122 (Partial Birth Abortion Act of 1997) as amended while continuing to work with sponsors, and with state legislators on state bills, to improve the language further, particularly to delete the provision dealing with criminal penalties.

How long has it been since the New York Times had truly great writers or thinkers? It certainly hasn't been in my lifetime.
Their canned response to the Virginia Tech tragedy (posted mere hours after it happened and before the facts had come out) and now their response to the latest Supreme Court ruling on abortion demonstrates that their editorials are no better than liberal talking points.
The Times would have me believe that the majority decision could not be trusted because it was written by men. And while the dissent was also largely written by men, at least they had a woman in their midst.
So, too, I should believe that telling a woman that she can no longer "choose" a certain medical procedure means that all of her choices have been taken away from her. (Hmmm, I wonder what that argument would do to the Times favorite positions on gun control and the Second Amendment.)
The Times also tries to argue that since none on the majority side are doctors we should not trust their judgment...ignoring the fact that none on the minority side (or at the Times) are, either. Also ignored is the fact that issues of law are not supposed to be decided by doctors.
That the Times has to falsely portray the majority opinion, and the reasoning behind it, says it all. The Times' position on this subject cannot stand on its own merit.

When it comes to abortion, of course.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court's conservative majority upheld a nationwide ban Wednesday on a controversial abortion procedure in a decision that sets the stage for additional restrictions on a woman's right to choose. Hmmmm. Or I suppose some could say that this sets the stage for additional protections for the rights of the unborn. We should certainly consider them to be "human" and treat them as "life" when they reach an age where they can survive outside the womb. That's about 22 weeks (in one of the most extreme cases), if I recall correctly. Why wouldn't you consider elective abortion to be murder after that? As for the "right to choose", I'd say that if you haven't made a choice to terminate by the fifth month then subconsciously at least you've decided to keep it (or give it up for adoption).
I wonder how our society would be graded by the standard that we are judged on how we treat the weakest members of our society?
Maybe we should start calling the unborn "illegal immigrants". At least they'd have more rights than they do now.
Edit: The procedure in question only accounts for about 2200 out of 1+ million abortions annually. That's less than 0.2%.
Edit: Dear Liberals: abortions have not been "banned". A dead baby/fetus is not affected by this law. Please, stop getting hysterical and study the facts before you rant.

In a previous post I mentioned that the Supreme Court could hear a case that might have a profound impact on abortion laws.
The Supreme Court, however, has declined to hear the case.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned aside the case of Sandra Cano, one of the women behind the legalization of abortion, who had sought to reverse the victory she won 33 years ago.
Cano says she never wanted an abortion and that her difficult early life resulted in her becoming the anonymous plaintiff in Doe v. Bolton, the lesser-known case which the justices ruled on the same day in 1973 as the landmark Roe v. Wade. That is too bad. It would have been interesting to hear the arguments from both sides and the reasoning from the justices in any decision they would have reached. Some big news on the abortion issue. Both original plaintiffs in the "Roe" and "Doe" cases that set the stage for the landmark Supreme Court ruling in 1973 have recanted and asked that their cases be reheard.
In the "Doe" case the woman claims that she was coerced into the lawsuit and that her signature on an affidavit was forged.
"I am 99 percent certain that I did not sign this affidavit," she said, according to the Insight report. "I do not believe it is my signature on the affidavit, and Margie either forged my signature or slipped this document in with other papers while I was signing divorce papers. I never told Margie that I wanted an abortion. The facts stated in the affidavit in Doe v. Bolton are not true." What? The ACLU use dishonest methods to achieve their goals? I am shocked, shocked I say! ( In her own words... ) With medical technology able to save preemies born months too early, today's abortion laws are nothing short of legalized infanticide.
The Supreme Court is now considering the case anew and hopefully will reverse this great tragedy. Current Mood : hopeful Tags : abortion, aclu, doe v. bolton, roe v. wade, supreme court Location : home

Because a woman's right to abuse (her body and any "potential life") is at risk!
New federal guidelines ask all females capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves -- and to be treated by the health care system -- as pre-pregnant, regardless of whether they plan to get pregnant anytime soon. But wait, the following sounds pretty reasonable, doesn't it?
While most of these recommendations are well known to women who are pregnant or seeking to get pregnant, experts say it's important that women follow this advice throughout their reproductive lives, because about half of pregnancies are unplanned and so much damage can be done to a fetus between conception and the time the pregnancy is confirmed. Not to the left...it is all part of a diabolical plan to keep them from doing harm to themselves (and to others) and to "keep women forever pregnant".
Those nasty doctors Republicans! How dare they encourage women to stay healthy!
For the left, the apparent solution to this problem:
Nearly 28,000 U.S. infants died in 2003, according to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The infant mortality rate increased in 2002 for the first time in more than 40 years to seven deaths per 1,000 live births, but it did not change significantly in 2003. Birth defects, low birthweight and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) were the leading causes of infant death in 2003, according to NCHS.
The U.S. infant mortality rate is higher than those of most other industrialized nations -- it's three times that of Japan and 2.5 times those of Norway, Finland and Iceland, according to a report released last week by Save the Children, an advocacy group. is more abortions, because dead babies don't have "birth" defects or other problems that lead to early deaths.
Uh...non-abortion related deaths, that is.
Update: View the original report from the CDC. As you can see for yourself, it is not an evil neocon plan to make women into baby factories. Current Mood : annoyed Tags : abortion, democrats, health care, liberals Location : Home

Judging from the hysterical reaction of the left, President Bush's nomination of John Roberts to be an associate Supreme Court Justice is the end of the world...at least for women.
Apparently the one and only concern of women in this day and age is access to abortion. It is ironic that a group that is trying to milk the civilian deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan (especially the children) for political gain would now claim that a woman's supreme right (perhaps even duty) is to have an abortion—an act that has the most dire consequences for the child(ren) involved.
I (half) jokingly say that the left likes to treat the Constitution like a menu; picking and choosing which items to support and which ones to ignore. The Supreme Court fight seems to have reduce the scope even more drastically. According to the left, all issues now directly affect a woman's "right" to terminate a pregnancy.
This is precisely why the left keeps losing national elections and losing support in many areas of the United States. Even people who are pro-choice on abortion realize that there is more to and about woman than access to cheap and easy abortions. Women have made great strides in society over the past few decades. They are just as concerned about the economy, national security and the war on terrorism as are men. To objectify women in such a manner, and to patronize their status in society (as if they had nothing else on their minds than to worry about whether they could have an abortion on demand) reduces them to the flesh and blood equivalent of an incubator.
This kind of behavior from the left has driven millions of women to the right and the Republican party. While the left treats them as a special interest group obsessed with abortion, the right treats them as they are: different individuals with different priorities ranging from education, to the economy and national defense. As long as the left continues to treat women as a single-vote group they will continue to lose support.
Women are interested in a wide variety of issues. They want to know where a party stands on all of those issues so they can make an informed choice about which candidates to support. Similarly, they want to know more about Judge Roberts than what his personal opinion about abortion might be.
Update: John Fund echoes the sentiment in his Political Diary:
To Roberts' Opponents, the Constitution Is About Abortion and Only Abortion
When President Bush interviewed John Roberts last Friday, he told him that any Supreme Court nominee he named would undergo an examination akin to that of a proctologist. That is certainly proving to be the case.
Yesterday, David Leitch and Shannen Coffen, two former colleagues of Judge Roberts, appeared on a conference call with reporters to discuss their friend's background and character. Most of the questions were civil, but the two were also pelted with inquiries about what church Judge Roberts, a Roman Catholic, had attended and who else was in the congregation.
We can safely guess that abortion will be one area of inquiry reporters will spare no effort in examining Judge Roberts on. Within hours of his being named to the high court, the Boston Globe reported that his wife, lawyer Jane Sullivan Roberts, had been involved in a group called Feminists for Life that had filed legal briefs challenging the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade. This morning, the Los Angeles Times weighed in with a front-page story on Ms. Roberts' involvement with the pro-life organization. Jennifer Palmieri, a spokeswoman with the liberal Center for American Progress, explained to the Times why Judge Roberts' wife will inevitably be a subject of interest to administration opponents: "In the absence of information about this guy, people are looking at her and trying to read the tea leaves."
Serrin Foster, the president of Feminists for Life, noted that Judge Roberts had never been involved with her organization and that his wife last held a position in the group in 1999. Since then she has written an article for its newsletter on adoption, a subject of interest since she and her husband have adopted two young children. Don't be surprised, though, if some enterprising reporter tries to unearth the "story behind" their adoption before this confirmation battle is over.

Well, that is the claim made by the likes of Hillary Clinton (I told you she is already running for President as a conservative!) and Howard Dean.
However, as most of us already knew, that claim was a lie. Now Factcheck.org confirms that it is a lie:
Politicians from Hillary Clinton and John Kerry to Howard Dean have recently contended that abortions have increased since George W. Bush took office in 2001.
This claim is false. It's based on an an opinion piece that used data from only 16 states. A study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute of 43 states found that abortions have actually decreased. Update, May 26: The author of the original claim now concedes that the Guttmacher study is "significantly better" than his own. I can tell you right now that this will not be the end of the lies, though. They will continue right up through the 2006 elections and beyond. Current Mood : busy Tags : abortion, hillary clinton
