Hillary...meh, who really cares?

Hillary's argument—that as the second-best Democrat she is the best person to defeat a Republican—reveals some of the internal thought processes of certain Democrats.

Those certain Democrats would be the ones who play the myriad special interests within the party against each other in order to maintain their grip on power.

You see, it was supposed to be a year in which a "minority" won the nomination and demonstrated the great compassion Democrats have for the downtrodden. But a funny thing has happened on the way to the ~~coronation~~ nomination. The wrong minority is winning.

Wrong because Obama does not represent the real power within the Democratic Party. Instead he represent all the people who follow the party because they think what the party says is actually what the party stands for.

So the people who have been manipulating minorities against each other for the past few decades have received a rude awakening: the minorities have stated quite clearly that they don't want a half-measure when it comes to this election. If the party pretends to desire someone who is both everyman and a victim then someone from a powerful political family cannot truly be that person. Especially when that powerful political family has already been in the White House.

The super delegates were supposed to be the way the Democrats kept something like this from happening. By providing the illusion of voters deciding who the nominee would be they kept the rank and file happy. Unfortunately for the Democrat insiders, the voters have stuck with their candidate despite not-so-subtle attempts to divide and conquer his supporters.

Hillary is $20 million in debt and going deeper. Someone...anyone...should tell her it is time to stop digging. Even an infamous Clinton campaign surprise can't save her now.

Democrats should be thankful that Republicans are just as divided and their prospective nominee is too politically inept to take advantage of the Democrat divisions.

Earthlink pulls the plug on city-wide wi-fi

At the time I said this was a horrible idea.

PHILADELPHIA - EarthLink Inc. is pulling the plug on its troubled wireless high-speed Internet network in Philadelphia, once touted as a national model.

EarthLink, which pinned its future on municipal Wi-Fi networks following rapid declines in its dial-up Internet access business, said Tuesday that it could not find a buyer for the $17 million network.

It was like putting public pay phones every ten feet and selling calling cards for them in the 1970s. The infrastructure costs are just too high to recoup. The WiMAX model is much better suited to metropolitan areas. You already have cell phone towers up; use them for wireless internet access as well.

Obama moves to declare victory

Once he starts talking about running mates and what kind of person he'd pick for cabinet posts Hillary will be placed in an almost untenable position. She's behind in both elected delegates and super delegates and Obama has won more contests than she has.

The longer he allows the debate to remain focused on who is winning the longer Hillary has to—if you'll pardon the expression—pull a Clinton. ;)

Obama wins North Carolina, Indiana too close to call

Barack Obama is projected to win the North Carolina primary, adding to his victory in Guam earlier this week. The race in Indiana is too close to call, indicating that Hillary has some electability questions of her own.

Recent economic news is as equally disheartening to Democrats as the economy showed GDP growth and job increases. Both are signs that the economy is unlikely to collapse into a recession in the near future. This makes plans for a Democrat run featuring a recessionary economy more difficult. (But as 1992 demonstrated the Democrats can turn just about any economy into recession with the cooperation of the MSM.)

Meanwhile more super delegates are being created. Newly minted delegates often find themselves being contested by both sides until they declare they are for one candidate or another. It is clear that the Democrat Party is not going to let the voters decide the election. (No surprise there, eh?)

In an odd move John McCain has started running general election style TV ads. Unless he is merely testing how each commercial plays in front of various audiences in test markets he's wasting a lot of money by running them this early. He should talk to President Dean about how well that strategy worked for him in 2004.

That silly economy, it keeps growing (albeit very slowly) and adding jobs (though not payroll) and that pesky unemployment rate refuses to budge from around five percent.

I mine aside from voting Democrat, that is. There won't be an "official" recession in time for the election, but you can be sure people who think it is necessary for there to be on in order to get elected will make you think there is one.

Al Franken, who bursts into tears whenever I confront him, apparently hates to pay taxes.

"To project a more senatorial air, Franken is trying hard to watch what he says, and his staff has placed him in a kind of protective custody: journalists are not allowed to ride along, as is standard campaign practice, lest they overhear and report an undignified remark."

And in an election cycle where the slowing economy is a major part of the Democratic message, it never is good to have a candidate who didn't pay back taxes -- even if it was an accidental oversight. There's little doubt that this will be a major part of the Republican messaging when the race starts heating up.

Hey, what do you expect from a professional liar like Al Franken? He has made it clear over and over again that he will lie, cheat and steal in an attempt to get his way (or attack those he dislikes).

He's like Michael Moore—only less (unintentionally) funny.

The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, upheld the Indiana voter ID law.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Monday upheld a tough state law requiring voters to show photo identification

The decision means that ~~Democrats~~ anyone hoping to cheat will now have to create a large volume of fake identification materials as well.

The main opinion agreed with Republican supporters that the law was necessary to prevent voter fraud and safeguard public confidence in the integrity of elections. The Bush administration supported the law.

Ironically, the Democrats who pushed voter registration laws under monikers such as "moter voter" (because you could register to vote while you got your driver's license) in the 1990s tried to argue that people who vote for Democrats are largely too poor or stupid to obtain photo IDs.

The fact that you can get a free photo ID for voting purposes and cast a provisional ballot if you forget your ID and exemptions exist for the indigent and people with religious objections to being photographed left the Democrats bemoaning the fact that their voters are simply too stupid to follow even minimal voting identification requirements.

As anyone who has tried to make edits to Wikipedia knows, if your contribution goes against leftist doctrine you'll be out-edited until you give up and go away.

Update: I happened to stumble across a page where this person (Kim Dabelstein Petersen) undid an edit I had made to a page claiming "no one" disputes the Church of Climate Change by linking to a petition signed by thousands of scientists. She removed it and claimed that "individuals" didn't matter. They only cited "organizations" (that agreed with their view, of course). How typicaly leftist. If George Orwell were alive today he'd write "WikiFarm 2084"!

And it still holds with their former darling of the Republican Party, John McCain.

Extending Bush's tax cuts would cost $1.5 trillion through the end of a hypothetical second McCain term, according to Treasury Department figures.

The problem for these "economists" and "nonpartisan" analysts is reality: revenues have gone up since the Bush tax cuts were enacted, not down.

What these "analysts" are doing is ignoring reality. In their world Wal Mart doesn't exist (let alone as hugely profitable company) because it is "impossible" to sell something at lower prices and make more money.

Yet it happens every day, both in business and with taxes. Their argument—that revenues would be even higher with higher tax rates—also flies in the face of reality. Higher taxes on capital gains have resulted in sustained losses in revenues (not just theoretical ones!) and the Clinton hike on higher income wage earners brought in far less revenue than projected. Meanwhile the Kennedy, Reagan and Bush tax cuts all spurred record-setting or long-term economic expansions and the Republican tax cuts in the mid 1990s turned a slow-growth (remember those Clinton tax hikes?) economy into another record-setting expansion. The most recent capital gains tax rate reduction resulted in revenues almost double what was projected by these same "analysts", for example. Federal revenues increased from 18.4% of GDP in 2000 to 18.8% of GDP in 2007 while the Bush tax cuts were phased in. That's impossible in the upside-down world of the left. In addition, these tax cuts have made the income tax system more progressive, with higher wage earners paying a higher and higher share of the total taxes. Reversing the tax cuts would reverse that trend as well.

Opponents of tax cuts always like to argue the inverse of reality. A tax cut leaves more money in your pocket, yet they always talk about how much a tax cut "costs". A tax cut means more money for you. Don't be fooled. The government receives plenty of money and the resulting economic growth spurred by the greater take home pay means the government gets their money in the end as well. It's a win-win situation: in 2006—the year the "evil rich" finally got their tax cuts—federal revenues increased 9.7%. What the left offers is lose-lose: you pay higher taxes, the economy doesn't grow as fast and the government still spends more money.

Speaking of taxes and insurrections

A news article mentions the trouble Democrats are having in states like Pennsylvania due to their long history of attempting to deny citizens their Second Amendment rights. Their friends in the media don't seem to get it either, thinking there is a huge difference between the federal Second Amendment and the state constitution:

The Second Amendment says, "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." In the D.C. case, the Supreme Court is expected to interpret the amendment for the first time since it was ratified in 1791.

The older Pennsylvania provision declares, "The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned."

They of course mean essentially the same thing. The Second Amendment was simply distilled down to the worst-case scenario: the right of the people to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. That was never a limiting clause; it was never intended to only allow for an armed insurrection as the reason to have guns. Today such a clause would probably be worded, "if for no other reason than to defend themselves against a tyrannical government the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

I must say the wording of the Pennsylvania provision holds up much better to the abuses of language change over time.

Edit: I should add that ING Direct uses the same silly "site key" and "passcode" combinations and their site blows just as much. It is obviously not designed for people who use multiple machines, OSes and browsers. Or people who routinely wipe all browser cookies for that matter.

J.K. Rowling is suing to stop the publication of a lexicon of the Harry Potter universe.

NEW YORK - J.K. Rowling said Monday that her efforts to halt a publisher's "Harry Potter" lexicon have been crushing her creativity.

Rowling said she has stopped work on a new novel because the lawsuit in federal court has "decimated my creative work over the last month."

Rowling is suing RDR Books to stop publication of Steven Vander Ark's "Harry Potter Lexicon." She says her copyrights are being violated.

The fact that the publisher does not contest the issue of copyright violation makes me think they will lose this battle. It is hard to argue that you are pursuing a scholarly venture...at $24.95 a copy.

I doubt Ohio will pass a similar law soon with a Democrat governor...even though they campaigned as people who favored protecting gun rights.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Reuters) - Most Florida residents would be allowed to take guns to work under a measure passed by Florida lawmakers on Wednesday.

The bill, allowing workers to keep guns in their cars for self-protection, was approved by the Florida Senate by a vote of 26-13. It now goes to Republican Gov. Charlie Crist to sign into law.

Backed by the National Rifle Association and some labor unions, the so-called "take-your-guns-to-work" measure would prohibit business owners from banning guns kept locked in motor vehicles on their private property.

The measure applies to employees, customers and those invited to the business establishment as long as they have a permit to carry the weapon.

Democrats in Florida are pretending to be concerned about the rights of property owners as their excuse for opposing the bill. As if!

The lie: that (Republicans) campaigning in Mississippi is "racist". So we get garbage like this from the loony left:

And just why is this racist? Why because Democrats who held power in the south made it possible for the Klan to do their dirty work.

So how does that impact Republicans? Simple, the Democrats claim it was "conservatives" who did things like that and since Republicans == conservatives it is all their fault and their legacy.

You can't reason with people who argue that 2+2=5 and that they don't have to prove it.

It doesn't matter that McCain is on a "biography" tour and that he has family ties going back generations. It doesn't matter that this is in Meridian and the killings alluded to occurred 40 miles away...one of the victims was born in Meridian! So paint another "exclusion zone" there! The goal is clear: claim that Republicans are "not allowed" to campaign anywhere in the south...because Democrats encouraged and defended racist policies for 150 years in the south.

Doesn't make sense? It doesn't have to! The left hopes to keep the Republicans on the defensive about race by constantly pointing and shouting "racist!" in order to cover up their racist legacy.

It's not going to work. The truth will always trump their lies.

Note: Stoller has since offered an "update" where he says he is "probably wrong"...oh that's nice. As if an update to a blog entry is seen by anywhere near as many people as the original article or its copies that fly through the webosphere. Stoller should offer a new entry detailing why he was wrong if he is truly remorseful. The end result is that Democrats are still spreading lies about Republicans by claiming that campaigning in the south equals a racist act.

Hillary caught up in yet another lie

Hillary has been caught in yet another lie. Among the many embroidered tales she has been telling on the campaign was one about a poor unwed Ohio mother who worked in a pizza parlor and died—along with her unborn child—because she had no insurance and a hospital refused to treat her.

The thing is while the person involved, Trina Bachtel, did die (and her baby was stillborn) it wasn't because she lacked for insurance or because a hospital refuse to treat her. She had insurance and she was never denied care at a hospital.

The excuses are the usual: Hillary heard it from someone who heard it from someone who had a friend who heard it.... That Hillary never bothered to fact check the story says it all. Because it fit neatly into her preconceived notions and agenda she readily accepted and repeated the story as fact.

Because I live in Ohio and used to work in a hospital I could tell this story was bullshit from the start. Unfortunately it is not easy for people in other parts of the country, especially those who only hear the MSM version of events, to know whether someone like that could be denied treatment at a hospital in Ohio.

The question remains: if Hillary has to lie about the current state of affairs in order to push her agenda for socialized medicine, how necessary is her "cure"?

Women are finding out just how low the "feminists" will go. In this particular case women are being thrown under the bus in the name of political correctness that favors...men.

Hard to believe, but that is what "feminist" activists are saying in response to the arrest and conviction of Muslim men who have been gang-raping non-Muslim women in Australia.

But feminist reaction was not praise; it was hostility. Those in the audience at the conference that announced the news cried the convictions were “nothing but racist prosecutions.” They were outraged over the “racism” of the strict punishments given to the Muslims rapists.

To these feminists, protection for Muslims – to stop “racist” comments about Muslims – out-trumps justice for rape victims. The Anti-Discrimination Board in Australia pumped out pamphlets chastising the media for “Anti-Muslim” bigotry – meanwhile non-Muslim women have to worry about being brutally raped by a gang of Muslim thugs.

This is the sad reality for any "special interest" group on the left. They eventually find out that their interests are subjugated to those who are "above" them in the liberal hierarchy. After being near the top for years women are now finding themselves subject to the special interests of men. In this particular case that interest happens to be the gang-raping of women who are not of the same religion as the men.
