Ben Barnes invents time travel!
The leftists are at it again. Ben Barnes, former Lt. Governor of Texas, is claiming that he helped President Bush get into the Texas Air National Guard.

The problem? He wasn't even elected Lt. Governor until a year and half after President Bush was in the TANG!

It is quite clear that Barnes said he, as Lt. Governor, helped get Bush into the guard:

I got a young man named George W. Bush into the Texas National Guard when I was lieutenant governor, and I'm not necessarily proud of that. But I did it. I got a lot of other people in the National Guard because I thought that was what people should do when you're in office, and you help a lot of rich people.

And other leftists are using the claim in their propaganda tracts:

Bush senior was a member of Congress at the time, and, according to Phillips, had a friend speak to Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes about young George. Barnes in turn contacted the commander of the Texas Air National Guard, who greased the way.

Now what is hilarious is that alleged journalists have the truth right in front of them but fail to ask Barnes about the contradiction:

In a video posted on the Internet, former Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes, a Democrat, says he is ashamed that he helped President Bush and the sons of other wealthy families get into the Texas Air National Guard in 1968 so they could avoid serving in Vietnam.

"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard when I was lieutenant governor of Texas, and I'm not necessarily proud of that, but I did it," Barnes said in the 45-second video, which was recorded May 27 at a meeting of John Kerry supporters in Austin.

Barnes, who was House speaker when Mr. Bush entered the Guard, later became lieutenant governor.

Stung by the obvious contradiction, some liberal news sources are simply editing out the offending passage:

"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard ... and I'm not necessarily proud of that, but I did it," Barnes, a Democrat, said in a video clip recorded May 27 before a group of John Kerry supporters in Austin, Texas.

Barnes, who was House speaker when Bush entered the Guard, later became lieutenant governor.

That "..." is where this belongs "when I was lieutenant governor of Texas". Yes, there is a liberal media and yes they do lie to us.

It's too late, we know the truth!

Unless he has a time machine, it is impossible.

"The whole audience booed after Bush wished Clinton well. Ok, would you believe 10 Libertarians and a Young Republicans snickered? Would you believe Dick Cheney and Dennis Miller gave a sigh?"

Ben Barnes
I'm from Texas, and I remember Ben Barnes as a CORRUPT OFFICIAL who lost out on a promising career at a time when Texas was still a powerful DEMOCRAT stronghold, this isn't surfacing, and I don't remember the details - Searches aren't helping.
Anyone remember the DETAILS on Ben Barnes own very heavily misspent youth in politics?
I would appreciate a refresher on those details.
Those were the days of powerful Dim machines in Texas very much like Mayor Daley's and Joe Kennedy's.

Does it make sense that in a day DECADES BEFORE ANY GOP PRIMARIES in Texas that Ben Barnes WOULD have extended a favor to a GOP politician's son?

The hunt has been on for YEARS for a Texan who would denounce Bush, surely Barnes of all people felt strongly enough to have come forward in 2000.
